SOLUTIONS / FRONT-OF-THE-METER STORAGE
Front-of-the-meter storage.
Energy and ancillary services compete for the same battery capacity. A market award has to become a feasible plant command, with enough charge, available equipment and headroom to deliver it. Cycling also consumes battery life.
01 / CONTROL
Energy and ancillary services share one battery.
Battalion EMS connects market dispatch to local plant control. Available power, state of charge (SOC), operating limits and battery degradation inform feasible dispatch. Ancillary services support grid balance and reserve, and their obligations use the same battery resources as energy trading.
The Battalion power plant controller (PPC) holds active power, reactive power, frequency response and export within the interconnection limits. It distributes setpoints across inverter groups within the limits each battery reports. Battalion’s supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) provides field data with timestamps and quality, and assigns one writer at a time to each command point.
Battalion Live shows plant state, power and event timelines. Operators can compare requested dispatch with the equipment response.
02 / MODELING
Market economics at the project connection.
The modeling service studies energy arbitrage and ancillary services by market, with price behavior at the proposed connection. Sizing, duration, battery life and warranty constraints are included in the comparison.EIGHT NORTH AMERICAN MARKETS
ERCOT · CAISO · MISO · PJM · NYISO · ISO-NE · AESO · Mexico
Operating fleet: ERCOT, CAISO and Mexico. The remaining markets are covered by the modeling platform.
03 / OPERATIONS
Market commitments with plant limits in view.
The operator gains consistent control across repeated storage blocks and a record for operational review. The project model shows the duty associated with each service and the battery life it consumes.
Ignoring equipment limits can leave a plant unable to follow an award. Ignoring degradation can make an attractive dispatch uneconomic over the battery’s life. Model inputs and operating records make those trade-offs visible.
