SOLUTIONS / BEHIND-THE-METER AND DEMAND RESPONSE
Behind-the-meter storage and demand response.
Demand charges, time-of-use prices and demand-response events can ask the battery to do different things at the same time. Solar and on-site generation change the load at the meter. Dispatch based on an average energy price misses those interactions.
01 / CONTROL
Dispatch follows the bill and the reserve.
Battalion EMS coordinates storage, solar and generation against the site tariff. Demand charges, time-of-use periods, ratchets and riders are modeled as written. A ratchet carries a prior demand level into later billing calculations, and a rider adds a specified charge or adjustment.
Energence compares the bill with and without storage, then evaluates battery power and duration. Backup reserve and battery degradation remain constraints in the dispatch model.
02 / PROGRAMS
Demand response and coincident peaks share capacity.
Demand response reduces net load during a program event. The dispatch must fit the notification window, baseline method and recovery requirements. Battery and meter data support the event review.
Four coincident peaks (4CP), five coincident peaks (5CP) and twelve coincident peaks (12CP) allocate costs using demand at selected system peaks. Those programs are modeled alongside demand charges, energy shifting and eligible market services.
03 / OPERATIONS
One model for the assets behind the meter.
The operator gains a comparison on the actual tariff, including solar production and on-site generation. The controller uses available energy above the backup reserve, and recharge follows site limits.
A dispatch that lowers one charge can increase another or leave too little energy for a program event. A combined model exposes that cost. It also shows when extra battery duration adds less value than it costs to install and cycle.
